SHIFT PAY GUIDE
Shift Calendar Apps That Calculate Pay: A Side-by-Side Comparison
Updated August 27, 2026
Most shift calendar apps are calendars first; a few also estimate pay, and they differ a lot in how far the math goes. This table compares seven iPhone apps on what their App Store listings say about pay math, differentials, overtime, offline use, accounts and price, as of 2026-08-27. ShiftCheck is ours; it's in the table on the same terms as everyone else, and every fact about the other apps links to the listing it came from.
How we compared
Every row is built from the app's public App Store listing — the description, the in-app purchase list and the feature bullets — read on the date above. We didn't score screenshots, reviews, or features we couldn't find in the listing; where a listing doesn't mention something, the cell says 'not stated' rather than guessing. Prices are the US App Store prices on that date and will change.
Five columns matter for someone who wants a calendar that also gets the paycheck right. Pay math: none, hours × rate, or overtime and differentials. Differentials: which premiums the app can apply. Overtime on the blended rate: whether overtime is priced at the differential-included regular rate the FLSA requires, or the listing doesn't say. Offline and no account: whether you can use it on a night shift in a basement with no signal and without creating a login. Price model: subscription, one-time, or free.

What 'pay math' actually means
The three tiers are worth spelling out. 'None' means the app tracks shifts and nothing about money — NurseGrid and Spoke are scheduling and shift-swap tools, not pay tools, and that's fine if pay isn't why you want the app. 'Hours × rate' means the app multiplies your hours by one hourly rate to show an earnings total; Supershift and My Shift Planner are in this tier, with My Shift Planner's listing adding flat overtime tracking. It's a useful estimate for a single-rate job with no premiums.
'Overtime + differentials' means the app knows that a night hour and a day hour pay differently, and that some hours pay a premium. Nursly's listing describes night and weekend differentials, a holiday multiplier and overtime stacking; ShiftWallet's describes pay math plus a paycheck verifier; ShiftCheck's describes night, weekend and holiday differentials, weekly overtime on the blended rate, and PTO. Within this tier the remaining question is the overtime method.
Differentials and the overtime rate
Under the FLSA, overtime is 1.5× a regular rate that includes shift differentials — so an app that computes overtime on base rate alone will disagree with a correctly run payroll, and one that computes it on the blended rate will match it. Of the apps in the table, ShiftCheck's listing states overtime is computed on the differential-included rate; Nursly's, ShiftWallet's and My Shift Planner's listings mention overtime but don't state how the rate is built, which is why those cells say 'not stated' rather than 'no'. If you're evaluating any of them for a job with differentials, paint a 48-hour night week and check whether the overtime line equals 1.5× base or 1.5× (base + differential).
Offline use and accounts
Calendars get opened in break rooms, parking garages and hospital basements. Supershift's listing says it works offline with an optional account; NurseGrid requires an account and depends on its cloud service, which is the trade-off for its shift-swap and team features; ShiftCheck's listing says it works offline without an account. The other listings don't address it, so we haven't inferred anything. If offline matters to you, it's worth a one-minute airplane-mode test during the free trial.
Price models
Subscriptions dominate: Supershift, Spoke and My Shift Planner are monthly or yearly with a lifetime unlock, Nursly is weekly or yearly, and NurseGrid is free. ShiftWallet and ShiftCheck are one-time purchases. Over three years the gap is real — a $34.99-a-year plan is $104.97, a $2.99-a-week plan is over $450, and a one-time $5.99 or $14.99 is what it says — but a subscription is also the right model for a cloud-backed team product, so the comparison is only meaningful once you know which features you need.
Which to pick
If you need shift swaps and a unit-wide schedule, NurseGrid's free, account-based model is built for it. If you want a good-looking calendar with a simple earnings estimate, Supershift or My Shift Planner cover that at low subscription prices. If your pay has differentials and weekly overtime and you want the number to match your stub, look at the third tier — Nursly for a nursing-flavored subscription, ShiftWallet for a cheap one-time pay checker, ShiftCheck for a one-time purchase that prices overtime on the blended rate and works offline. Read the listings, take the trials, and paint one real week in each.
