Frequently Asked Questions
Is OkPhoto a subscription?
No. Every product in OkPhoto is a one-time purchase. Digital JPEG is $2.99, Digital + Print Sheet is $4.99, Family Pack is $7.99, and Lifetime Pro is $19.99. No recurring charges, no trials that auto-renew.
What can I do for free?
Everything except the final export. Onboarding, document browsing, the full capture experience with live alignment guidance, and the complete nine-check compliance verdict are all free. You only pay if and when you want to export the compliant photo.
Why pay-before-pay? What does that mean?
Most passport photo apps charge you, then show you whether the photo is compliant. We do the opposite. The nine-check compliance verdict is free. You see the green Pass before you ever see the paywall. If we can't get your photo to pass, you owe nothing.
Does OkPhoto edit my photo?
For strict documents (US Passport, US Visa, Canadian Passport, Indian Passport, Schengen Visa, etc.) — no, never. The exported JPEG is a direct crop of what your camera saw. For flexible documents (LinkedIn, Resume, General Compliant Photo) the app offers optional brightness and even-lighting adjustments. The app picks the right behavior based on the document you choose.
The US State Department says no AI editing — does that affect this app?
That January 2026 policy is exactly why OkPhoto exists. We don't edit strict-document photos at all. The compliance engine helps you capture a compliant frame in the first place, so editing isn't needed.
Which documents are supported?
25 at launch: US Passport, US Passport Renewal, US Visa / DS-160, DV Lottery 2027, USCIS, ESTA, UK Passport, Schengen Visa, ETIAS, Canadian Passport, Canadian Visa, Indian Passport, OCI Card, Chinese Visa, Chinese Passport (online), Australian Passport, German Passport, French Passport, Italian Passport, Spanish Passport, UK Driving Licence, Baby Passport (US), LinkedIn, Resume, and a General Compliant Photo for any clean ID need.
Is my photo private?
Yes. OkPhoto has zero analytics, zero tracking, and zero servers that see your photo. Every check runs on your iPhone. Captured photos and exports live in your device's Application Support directory and are excluded from iCloud backup by default.
What's Lifetime Pro?
A $19.99 one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited exports forever — useful if you take photos regularly (frequent travelers, immigration consultants, travel agents). It's restorable across your Apple ID. Lifetime Pro is hidden behind the 'More options' link on the export sheet because most users only need a single $2.99 export.
How do I restore my Lifetime Pro on a new device?
Go to Settings inside the app → tap 'Restore purchases.' This re-verifies your purchase with Apple and unlocks Pro on the new device.
What is Expert Review?
An optional paid add-on (planned for v1.1) where a human reviewer evaluates your photo against the document's official requirements with a 200% money-back guarantee if the photo is rejected. The toggle is visible in the export sheet but disabled at v1 until the review service is live.
Can I take a baby passport photo with this?
Yes. The Baby Passport flow allows for closed eyes (acceptable for infants under 6 months), gives special tips for photographing your child against a plain white sheet from above, and removes the strict mouth-closed requirement.
Troubleshooting
The compliance check keeps failing on background
Stand 2 feet from a plain wall — white, off-white, or light grey works for most documents. Avoid busy patterns, doorways, and anything within a foot of your head. The HUD background dot turns green when you're in a clean spot.
Strong shadow on one side of my face
The lighting check is sensitive to side-shadows. Face a window directly, or stand under even overhead light. The status card will tell you which side the shadow is on so you know which way to turn.
The shutter won't unlock even though I look aligned
The shutter only arms once all nine checks pass for 8 consecutive frames (~800 ms). If one check is on the edge, the live HUD dots show which one. Most common: focus (hold the phone steadier) or head level (tilt your head slightly so the eyes line up horizontally).
My purchase isn't unlocking the export
Go to Settings → Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used at checkout. If the issue persists, email us with your transaction ID from your Apple receipt and we'll get it sorted.
The camera permission prompt didn't appear
If you previously denied camera access, iOS won't re-prompt automatically. Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable OkPhoto.
My export saved to Photos doesn't look like the preview
The exported JPEG is cropped to the document's exact pixel dimensions (e.g., 600×600 for US Passport). The capture preview shows more of the frame around your face so you can verify alignment. The crop is centered on your face and follows the spec's head height and eye line percentages.
